Casual Friday On Big Franchises They've Missed Out On

0 Contributions
I really enjoy the Casual Friday series on Revision 3, and I've been thinking about my backlog recently, and this video explores some of the things I've been pondering over the past week.

I've missed out on a lot of franchises over the years, and I am trying to catch up on things, but there are just too many great games to get through, and there are more coming out every week.

The Jimquisition on Steam vs Console DRM

0 Contributions
A couple weeks ago, I posted just after E3 about the differences between Steam and the Xbox One, an entry which quickly seemed to become irrelevant with the reversal Microsoft did last week about the DRM scheme they were pushing with the console.

Jim Sterling today took on the topic of console-based DRM vs Steam and he makes a lot of the arguments I did while at the same time, also making a few I neglected or didn't think of.

I am glad there are other people making sure these arguments get out there.

The Midnight Movie Club Video Podcast

Well, all I have to say is what took so long. I kid, I kid. I could never do it, so why would I expect anyone else to do a video podcast.

Good stuff guys, good stuff.

Check out the Midnight Movie Club's other work.

Resuming the Midweek Video: Chvrches- Lies

I loved this song so much last year. And it is wonderful to see that that Chvrches is doing well as a band as they've performed live on BBC it seems.

I just look forward to seeing what the band records next as the songs I've heard from them have been very good indeed.

Video: Donald Glover Talk About Home Depot

This reminds me of when I was a kid. The specific incident never happened to me, but it is flavored with the kind of stuff that happened to me when I was a kid.

Paul and Ilana's Time Travelling Bong

This is one of the rare exercises in time travel that mentions something which immediately comes to mind when I think about visiting another time.

I am really surprised it doesn't even get mentioned often in the genre.

Midweek Video: The Death And Return Of Superman

Max Landis breaks down how the 1992 death and return of Superman changed comics for the worst.

I hadn't thought about the premise, but it does seem to hold water.

From the TV Critic Grimlock vlog.

I think it is a pitch perfect parody of the halftime in America Chrysler commercial.

Midweek Video: Groundhog Day As A Horror Movie

This trailer makes me wonder if this is more in keeping with the vision of the movie Groundhog Day as it would have appeared in the Monster Squad universe.

Sunday Video: Nostalgia

This is so true. I think the Midnight Movie Club is in part based on that.

Well, aside from the cookie slurry... that is still awesome.

Another bite-sized sketch from the geeks at the SMBC theatre.

To paraphrase Homer Simpson... everything looks bad when you look forward to it.

And the final line is hilarious.

Sunday Video: Pingu's The Thing

This claymation masterpiece has been making the rounds on Facebook this week, and it is just awesome.

Basically, by blending the children friendly Pingu with a rather faithful condensation of one of the best horror movies ever made, Lee Hardcastle has produced something which is astonishingly compelling.

It wasn't until my third viewing that I noticed something a little off about the music at the end.

Midweek Video: A Calvin and Hobbes Christmas

This is very quaint, yet disturbing look back at the snow handiwork of Calvin and Hobbes that ends with a wonderful message.

Midweek Video: Sequelitis on Mega Man Classic and X

I was really impressed by this breakdown of how the early Mega Man games were designed in a particular way that taught you everything you needed to know to play them without holding your hand or breaking the action.

It is a long video and there is a lot of swearing, but it really highlights an issue that plagues modern games... that designers sort of treat gamers like idiots that need to have everything explained to them in tutorials rather than teaching you how to play by setting up situations where you naturally discover how to play it by experimenting.

I played Mega Man X on a PS2 collection and it is exactly how he explains it. It was an example of a game creating set pieces that teach you how to play the game organically, and it is something that other designers should take note of.

Strangely appropriate.

Just one of the many cover versions of that theme song.
