Almost makes me want to go out and get a DS

Ah nostalgia, what would I do without you? Such joy and peril in one emotional response.

Unbeknownst to me, Nintendo, who up to this point this year had given users something to think about both in terms of the new name of their next-gen console and with an educational game which helps users inprove their brain functions, released a little slice of 2D flashback with a new Super Mario Bros. game.

Makes me wish that a) I had a DS or b) that I was 10-13 years old again to relive the magic of playing the original. Either way, I more than approve this move on their part. Now if only we could get someone to make another Super Dodgeball or River City Ransom game,(come on Atlus, I know you could do that), things would be just fine in my gaming life. My real life on the other hand... well, that's another story.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I wish they'd bring back Pong.

BTW, thanks for the blogmark!

Well, Rockstar is doing Table Tennis, but it just won't be the same....

It was a pleasure to blogmark you.

I actually have a DS and am 34 years old and LOVE playing Old School Mario stuff....cause that was the shit back in my day.

Of course, my uber gamer hubby who works for the uber gaming company in the world thinks I am "cute" and pats my head but whatever ;)

I think that part of the reason Katamari Damacy got a foothold in the non-Japanese world is because of Mario. PS2 owners needed some odd cuteness as well. Personally, I miss old school kart racing... and I know the DS has that going for it too now.

BTW, Great to meet you snackiepoo. :)

River City Randsom came out for the GBA, but it's not two-player, the only good way to play it.

Nothing like giving your buddy a whollup in the back of the head!

That's what a garbage can is for after all. I can still see the look on all their little super-deformed faces when you beat them down.

Good times, good times.

I'm going to be picked up a DS Lite in a couple of weeks. I was holding off until the newer version of the hardware was out before buying a DS. The new Mario game looks like a ton of fun, plus there's always Mario Kart and many other great games already released for it.

I wouldn't worry about feeling too old to play, nearly everyone of my friends (many of which are older than me) still love video games.

It'll be interesting to see how well the DS and the Wii integrate with each other.

I wonder if the new Mario game is going to be wi-fi compatible. That could have some really interesting potential features and game modes if it did.

I don't feel too old to play games either. I just remember my sense of wonder and delight when I first started playing the old Nintendo games, and I don't think I could ever entirely recapture that.

It's suppose to be WiFi capable, there's a 2 player mode where you can play against each other on the same map, looks rather neat.

There's some neat videos up on that site, if you haven't seen them already.

Now that's how you do things. Glad to see Nintendo is really embracing this now.
