Random Thoughts Redux

-Never in my entire life have I seen anyone buy a single thing from an olive bar at a supermarket. Not once. And yet, they are ubiquitous. Honestly, has anyone aside from the companies that manufacture those carts actually made money from the olive bar? Are they there just for the ambience?

-Was I the only one to see some weird subtext with the hiring Asian actor George Takei as the spokesman for Sharp Electronics' new tv's with an additional yellow color component? Or am I really over thinking this? Don't get me wrong... George Takei is awesome and everything, I just thought there may have been something else going on there.

-Pinups with Robert Downey Jr's face: If I hadn't discovered it this weekend and someone had blogged about it, we'd be looking at an easy contender for this week's Pageant of the Transmundane.

-I so want this as a print. I mean, Princess Peach actually looks like Uma Thurman. Awesome.

you come across some crazy shit.

Oh and the olive bar..I don't know how they survive. They've got them here to, I've got the same impression. Maybe the people who buy from it only visit on strange hours like really early in the morning.

Can you get a martini at these olive bars?

Sadako: And people put them on Pizzas too... blech!

Arjan: I wonder if it is a front for drug/human trafficking.

PTM: Unfortunately, the only thing you get an olive bar is the reek of olives. No booze. If there was alcohol, I would totally understand the appeal. After all, I think we've all been shopping at one point and realized the experience would be much more enjoyable if drinking was involved.

I work at a grocery store, so I can tell you for a fact that quite a few people use the olive bar, as I've had to ring up their purchases. What they do with the little containers once they leave the store, I have no clue, but people do buy that stuff.

I hate olives. I'm very happy not to have seen one of those. But then, where I live my market is more likely to have a salsa bar than anything else. WAY better. In fact, I'm going to suggest that next time I go in there...

what's an olive bar? We don't have those here in my corner of the galaxy.

ZBE: I think I will have to defer to you on that because you have a lot more time to see these sales over than I do during my visits to the supermarket.

Megan: The smell... it is pretty nasty.

Dezmond: An olive bar is a buffet-type chilled installation where bins of olives and other pickled vegetables are presented for purchase in a bulk type way. You scoop your own olives into containers and you pay by weight I am assuming.

We don't have olive bar's here in Australia, well not generally, I mean they're not unheard of but usually you'll find olives and olive related materials in our supermarket deli's where either a teenager or a generally angry older person will put them in the container for you upon request.

My pet hate is people who take grapes without paying for them...

Well, you could end up with someone tasting some grapes and then putting them back.
