Mandy Patinkin shunned

Part of me absolutely loved reading about Mandy Patinkin filming his final scenes for Criminal Minds today.

Don't get me wrong, I have really enjoyed his work on the above mentioned show, as well as Dead Like Me, but the story that is being told now is that his former cast members outright refused to appear in a scene with him after the way he left the series.

Which is pretty bad I admit... but then they twisted the knife a little bit more. It seems that the regular crew for the show also said they didn't want to be on set with him either so the producers had to bring in a special unit to do that work.

Ouch.

It's one thing to piss off your costars... but to piss off the crew too, that takes talent. And while actors may do a few different projects every year, think about how many gigs a lot of the backstage staff have, and the farther reaching consequences for that.

I mean, that is the kind of thing that could really follow you around, as I am sure that eventually, every set that Patinkin works on will eventually have someone on that crew that worked with him at Criminal Minds and is talking shit about him. Or perhaps there are going to be projects that he wanted to work on that because of the people involved, he will not get those jobs.

In the end, it looks like Mandy Patinkin's hasty second exit from a CBS television show is going to be costly. Leaving Chicago Hope was forgivable, but leaving a second series the same way will permanently hurt his career.

Holy hell, you got two of 'em. They've been showing up everywhere today. It's compelling though; just don't read it. My brain hurt.

Oh for the love of God...religious spam is the worst, especially since they used the "f" word and God right next to each other...classy.

Anyway, I've heard several times that Mandy Patinkin is a diva. I guess I don't care as much because I've been in love with him since before Princess Bride when I saw him play Che Guevara on Broadway with Patti Lupone as Evita!

Note to all: there was some really long religious spam in the comments, which is why there is mention of it in the comments.

Mayren: I know he quit Chicago Hope to be with his wife, so that is understandable, but I just think his exit from CM was ill-timed. If he discussed it with the producers and they were able to work out a nice exit strategy for him, I think he could have gotten out cleanly. As it is, it is bad.

J.D. I think I got nailed because I responded on the thread it was on at Becca's blog.

Hilly: I know he loves to sing... maybe that's what he plans on doing now.

Hey, MC, can you give me the quick run down on what happen for him to leave the show.

What was his reason behind his departure?

What are the producers saying?

What is the real reason he's leaving?

I don't have a lot of answers for you Semaj, though I have a few tantalizing bits.

1) He was also supposed to work on a PBS series called the Jewish Americans, but he didn't show up for that either.
2) During the TV Press tour in July, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler stated that his departure was due to "personal issues" and she winked. A critic asked her about said wink and she said "I think you get it"

I never recovered when he left Chicago Hope--I totally lost interest in it after he left. I was totally into his story line.
