Let's Get Karl Erikson on "The View"

Last night I was going through the numerous blogs in my blogroll when I came across posting that I just had to follow up on in my own way.

You see, with the departure of Star Jones-Reynolds from the View, well, there is an open slot on that ABC show, and it just so happens that the creator of one of my favorite blogs wants to take that slot.

The person who wants to co-host the View? Karl Erikson of Secondhand Tryptophan, and personally, I think he would bring an interesting dynamic to the table, I really do. Even if he only appears on the show once, I think it would be something worth supporting.

Of course, he can't make it there by himself, and here is where I am asking you all for a little help. You see, if enough of us talk about him and his quest to appear on the View, maybe, just maybe, he can As a community, let's see what we can do.

I mean, who wouldn't want to see Karl mix it up with Joy Behar, display his Inner Babs to Barbara Walters or put Elisabeth Hasselback in her place. That would be gold, pure gold.

If you are interested in getting involved in this little endeavor, post a story about Karl Erikson, http://www.secondhandkarl.com/ and The View on your own blog and encourage your own readers to do the same. Let's put one of our own onto that show by our sheer will of numbers. Come on... you know you like hearing about this kind of thing on the news, and you can be a part of it.

There is also a banner that you can post on your own entries that will look something like this:

Get Karl Erikson on The View

You can get that graphic on your own page by placing the following code on your entry:

<img src="http://artistschmartist.typepad.com/photos/badges/karlview.gif"
border="0" alt="Get Karl Erikson on The View" />
</a>

Let the Phenomenon begin today. Let's get Karl Erikson on the show!

Edit: Thanks to Karl, I can also offer you a way to add/digg this post at some social linking sites too.

I took a look. I think that for right now I will not support this. I would like to see Karl have a little more tact & depth to his opinions. I think the tact will naturally follow the depth. I find the tactlessness distracting.

The View will likely not look kindly on the fact that he uses words like "bitch." Yes, much of America uses this word but not usually on national television. (I find myself using this word too....not trying to be high and mighty).

I am sure that they will look at Karl's blog if they actually consider him.

Joy Behar has said the word bitch on the show on more than one occasion including last Tuesday, so Mr. Erikson's use of that word in print shouldn't be a problem, and as we both know, we can adapt to our audiences as well.

Joy Behar was rather tasteless in her day, so I think the View could not only survive but thrive with a new point of view.

Clearly we can see the inner depth of everyone by reading just their blogs and what they decide they want the whole internet to know. And what some people call tactless others call humorous; like Rosie O'Donnell has a tacky-free bone in her body.

Sorry MC, I just had to say that because I cannot stand it when people make single-faceted judgment calls.

However, Karl on the view may be a bad idea just because I think those ladies would cause him to run, not walk, for the Mike's Hard Lime.

Oh and that first paragraph was tactless sarcasm...just ONE of my facets.

(sorry again for snarking in your comments, MC.)

Matthew - thanks, bud. Appreciate it.

As for my tact and depth (or lack thereof), it's hard to believe that Butterfly is bitching about my use of the word "bitch" but not the other choice words I use on a regular basis. "Bitch" isn't even a fineable offense by the FCC these days.

If you watch the first 15 minutes of "The View" on any given day, you'll see there's a lot of tactless banter flowing freely. It's all in the name of humor.

Aside from that, if you look at my "Column" category, you'll see a list of all the newspaper columns I've written. It actually is possible for me to modify my language for a publishable or broadcastable environment. I'm versatile that way.

As as Matthew and Hilary have mentioned, Joy Behar and Rosie O'Donnell are hardly model citizens when it comes to language. But they do just fine on television because, like me, they can ADAPT.

I mean, in real life, I work blue... really blue, and while my swearing in my blogging persona has been very limited, my choices for the awards and comics should indicate just how much I enjoy people who can push the edge on things, and I think that's why Karl would be a good choice for this.
