How I Am Feeling About Blogging Right Now

I think Lee Sargent hit a lot of the notes I am feeling at the moment in his recent 5th Anniversary post.

I just feel like I don't have as many interesting things to say these days as I once did.

I've lost a lot of passion for this over the past few months, and I don't know if it will fully come back.

I feel most blogs have a shelf life. I know mine has reached it's although I must admit that as soon as I shut it down I suddenly started thinking about things I could post to it. That's worn off now though.

If you do shut this place down I must admit I'd miss it, but I'd certainly understand.

Change it up, find something that you enjoy doing. If it feels like a chore, it is. If I hadn't switched to pop culture mashups with minimal writing I would have stopped a year or two ago. I know where you're coming from.

It's a real shame that you're feeling this Matt, I think Jeremy is right, you might just need to change it up a bit. I would be open to some sort of blog challenge/cross-over/meme thing if you want?

Probably best to hold off until I'm back in Australia though. But let me know if you're up for something.

I've sometimes lost the enthusiasm for blogging too, so I understand the dwindling enthusiasm. (Time for me to switch to Tumblr?)

I've found that broadening the scope of my blog helps keep blogging from becoming a chore. I think there are listeners out there who expect my blog to be a film music blog all the time and get turned off by the amount of posts of mine that aren't connected to film music and focus on other music genres or other interests like TV shows, comic books or comedy. Frankly, film music can be a boring subject to blog at length about (though I still enjoy streaming film music), and most of those film music fans who probably think, "Gee, I wish Jimmy would post reviews of John Williams score albums," tend to be an irritating bunch I don't care for (they can be so conservative about certain things, like their musical tastes or their politics).

I get where you're coming from. I get burned out from time to time. When that happens, I simply step away for a bit. I know the internet will get by just fine if I don't post for a few days.

One of the key things I learned was to not force it. If I don't feel like writing about something, I don't do it. I used to write a ton of CD reviews but that became a chore, so I simply don't do as many.

Anyway, good luck in whatever you decide to do. And hey, I'm always looking for guest bloggers, so that's a low-pressure way to keep the ol' creative juices flowing.
