Express Checkout: Gossip, Nudity and Porno

  • I was greatly amused when I read a story about the producers of Gossip Girl using quotes from their harshest critics to advertise their show, mainly because it makes me think of the campaign John Waters and New Line used for Pink Flamingos. Of course, I think that is really where the comparisons end, unless there was a dog crap eating scene and a preoperative male-to-female transsexual flashing their bits on Gossip Girl, because if there is, well, then I'd just have to start watching.

  • You know, if I was naked in a few movies and suddenly there was the prospect that some professionally photographed and flattering images of that were going to emerge, I don't think I'd be terribly upset. Of course, the method that helped them disseminate, that would perhaps peeve me... so Anne Hathaway may have an issue with that if the FBI was the agency that helped make a series of topless photos public.

  • Kevin Smith took on the MPAA and once again won. Zack and Miri Make a Porno was originally rated NC-17, mainly for a sex scene involving Jason Mewes and Katie Morgan, a scene which Smith trimmed down as much as he felt was possible, but still the film received an NC-17. However, on appeal, the board decided to give the film an R rating. This is the third time Smith was able to get the rating he wanted after appeal, following the precedent of Clerks (R after being originally rated NC-17) and Jersey Girl (PG-13 after originally being rated R).
